Like inflation devalues your money, constantly jacking up the outrage negates the outrage, same for news: if every event is unprecedented nothing is newsworthy anymore. I blame the 24 hour news cycle, the social media verbal diarrhea ... too many words slung out there, nobody listens anymore, and the screams have become a mildly annoying din. No wonder "words with weight" have lost their meaning. It isn't only the Ns and the Rs, the insults being cheapened to irrelevance, it's also the "noble" words: truth, honesty, morality, justice ...
