The RUGSREAL 8x10 Living Room Area Rug Contemporary Area Rugs Modern Abstract Area Rug Throw Floor Carpet Machine Washable Area Rug for Bedroom Kitchen Nursery, 9' x 12' Multi/Red is, by any objective measure, a piece of shit.
I hope to that petty god that you, your family, your house, that shitty rug, and especially, that dear little spider in the buzzing light by your door all survive. Merde! You really know how to dredge out the humor from a nightmare.
I'm sitting here in the eastern midlands of England, where it is damp the year round save for the four days of our summer. It's where DH Lawrence grew up. I can taste the punguent, vaguely foetid air of the local woods in his poetry, just as I can taste the smoke in the words you have written. I have never been so grateful for our shitty weather, even though the small roads were flooded last week. I hope it stays wet enough here, and I pray you have a month of rain.
My dear Shalom this is the first time I realise you live in California. I am really sorry for all of you. I live in an area where natural (and unnatural) fires are quite common in summer but nothing like on this diabolical scale over there. But I do know that urgency and having a relevant "grab-bag" is not unusual for some neighbourhoods here either. May you all be safe. And if you have to sacrifice something to appease the fire-god, something probably beautifully flammable is clearly at hand - still boxed and ready to go. Just toss it into his flaming jaws on your way out. P.s I see a dog-leash hanging on the front door so I guess the order is - dog, photos, clothes, personal items, kazoo in that order and go! May you not have to. Blessings. Yes I mean that.
One of the most touching and universal pieces to come out of this tragedy. You've captured the essence of home, what can't be packed up and saved from a fire.
Suddenly the people of Los Angeles are real people, just like us,flesh and blood people, not the plastic celebrities of decades of our media s presentation. Even the plastic celebrities are real. It must be odd to be starting in a disaster movie when you didnt even know you'd been cast.
Love your views of the world as it always seems to be crashing down around us these days. Too bad Amazon doesn't have a "replacement for the current Prime Minister who can handle the shit that will be, come the Trump administration." I'd buy that in a minute, although, come to think of it, it would probably come from China.
As usual you nail the moment, always reminding me of the conflicting world we live in EVERYDAY not just when fires are burning - the whole yin and yang zeitgeist. I love your insight on humanity.
I'm confused (nothing new of late) -- you guys are living in L.A.? I nearly moved back recently. Stayed in Brooklyn, where all the doctors have left (see latest AARP stories), so if one is ill, lotsa luck. Hope you're all well and safe.
Thank you god, for not making Jeff the kind of guy who asks for a think piece

I would kill for some shitty weather. Thanks, Jon.
If only Amazon had an overnight-delivery fireproof blanket that covered the whole house. They're probably working on it in China.

I'm in Mission Viejo, Orange County--about 40 miles away. I just now started to smell smoke.
I just marked myself and my kazoo safe.

I tore up the flooring but it doesn't fit in the duffel. Landlord's gonna be pissed.
I would love to see a photo of Orli's art you mentioned

Her art is incredible, moving, thrilling.

Otherwise known as Life.
Best we can do is find the comedy.
True
Thank you, as always, for the much-needed levity with a huge dose of humanity.

Ha. Our leaders are flammable enough already, thank you.
We need a Brit one of those too.

Thank you, Shalom. Stay safe. Much love. xo

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought they lived in NYC ....
You achieved Jeff’s wish. Always good to add humor to a shit show. 🙏👏
